Homework is Posted

This weeks homework is posted!

Today we celebrate Shrove Tuesday in preparation for this years upcoming Lenten season. Students will be getting a chance to share today what they might already know about Ash Wednesday and Lent, and we will be focusing on learning about both during religion discussions in the upcoming weeks.

Tomorrow morning we will have a short Ash Wednesday celebration in our gym.

Kindness Week Letters

This week we celebrated Kindness Week by doing many different activities that focused on being kind to others. To wrap up Kindness Week, we decided to do something kind for the teachers and staff in our school: we wrote them thank you notes! First we came up with a list of teachers and staff to thank, and our amazing class was able to remember just about every single staff member at our school. Then students worked hard to come up with a specific reason why each staff member in our school deserved to be thanked. Today we delivered each note in person  to them and we had such a great time seeing the smiles on their faces as they read the note. I am encouraging students in my class to continue to do random acts of kindness every day to help people feel loved.

Have a fantastic weekend! Have fun, and be kind!

The finished notes!! Students worked hard to make each note extra special. Great job!

Some reminders

Hello!

Just a reminder that Monday is Family day! (No School).

I also ask that when you return the signed portion of your child's report card that you please return the envelope that it was sent home in, as they will be used again for their final reports in June.

I have changed the password for RAZ kids for most students in the class. If your child's password was changed you will find a new slip of paper in your child's mailbag today with the new password on it. If you do not have a paper sent home, then it is the same password as before.

I hope that everybody has a wonderful long weekend with their families!

Winterlude fun!

Here are just a few pictures of our day today! (I meant to take more but I was too busy having lots of fun with the kids sliding down the slides). Thank you again to our parent volunteers for helping out today, we couldn't have gone without you!

Trip Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the big day! We are excited to be heading to Jacques Cartier park. Just a reminder that the buses leave from our school at 9:30, so please make sure everybody arrives on time tomorrow!

Students will not be bringing their school bags with us on the trip. We will be eating lunch when we return back to school at 12:30. Please send at least one small, wrapped snack that students can bring with them in their pockets to eat while we are there. Please NO containers or any foods that will be messy to eat/require cutlery. Some good snack ideas would be small fruit gummy snacks or granola bars.

Please make sure to have your children dressed appropriately for the weather! We will be outside all morning. It may be a good idea to send an extra pair of pants and a shirt to change into once we are back at school just in case their clothes get wet underneath their snowsuits.

  Looking forward to tomorrow!

Homework, Field Trip forms

I hope everybody has been able to keep warm and safe today!! Hopefully the snow will stop and be cleared up in time for buses to be running as usual tomorrow. Please be sure to check our board website in the morning to see if it will be a snow day or not.

If you haven't already done so, please make sure to fill in and return your child's FIELD TRIP form to Jacques Cartier park ASAP. The trip is this Thursday, February 16th.

Weekly homework will resume this week and will be posted very shortly on the website. **Just a reminder that you must DOWNLOAD the document before printing to make sure that all of the pictures show up properly. If you simply print from the google doc then it may be missing some of the pictures for the work. There are also new word wall words for this week.

February

February may be a short month but it is still jam packed with lots of fun, activities, learning, and important events. Some important dates to note this month are:

Thursday, February 2nd: “National Sweater” Day. Please wear a sweater to school as we will be turning down the heat to conserve energy.
Tuesday, February 14th: Happy Valentines Day!
Thursday, February 16th: Report Cards go home.
Monday, February 20th: FAMILY DAY (Holiday: No School).
Thursday, February 23rd: Parent teacher interview night. More info will also be going home shortly.

**This month's calendar is now posted if you would like to print it out**

Here is what we are planning to learn this month!

Language Arts: We will be continuing to work on revising and editing our own work using checklists and work on improving the amount of detail and content in our writing. We will work on reading and writing persuasive texts as well as work on inferring skills.
Math: We will be finishing up our unit on telling time, and continuing addition. We will also cover temperature and money and begin focusing on subtraction.
Science: We will be finishing up our unit on properties of solids and liquids and starting the next unit: understanding structures and mechanisms (movement).
The Arts: We will continue our study of music and, if time, may start into our Drama unit.

Some important notes:
  • If your child is planning on handing out valentines, please make sure that they bring a valentine for everybody in the class so that nobody feels excluded. They will have an opportunity during the day to deliver the cards to their friends.
  • Please continue sending your child's library book back EVERY Monday so that your child can choose a new book that week, and please send it back in the ziplock bag with your child’s name on it to help with organizing the book exchange.
  • Please continue sending mailbags back every morning!

Have a fantastic weekend!

Just letting you know that there will be a couple of quizzes coming up for the students.

Next Monday (Feb 6th): Math quiz. The quiz will focus on telling time to the hour, half hour, and quarter past/quarter to the hour. There will also be two digit addition questions both with and without regrouping.

Next Tuesday (Feb 7th): Science Quiz: We will have a quiz on the three different states of matter (solid, liquid, gas).

We will be having a lot of time to practice and review concepts before then. I am sure students will be ready!
